Hisham's story begins not as a business leader but as a working freelancer. After completing a Master of Business Administration from Al-Khair University and a brief stint at a US-based company, he grew restless with the constraints of a conventional nine-to-five job. In the mid-2000s long before freelancing entered mainstream conversation in Pakistan — he turned to global marketplaces like Guru.com, Fiverr, and Upwork, offering design and digital services to international clients.
At a time when the concept barely existed in the country, he built a thriving independent practice, rising to become one of the top-ranked service providers on Guru.com and reportedly earning close to a million dollars in profile sales during his early freelance years. That success was significant not only personally but symbolically: it proved that a professional could build a global income from Pakistan, on Pakistani soil, using nothing more than skills and an internet connection.
In 2005, Hisham founded Infomist Services, channeling his freelancing expertise into a company that would deliver digital services to clients worldwide while nurturing local talent. Infomist grew into a respected name in Pakistan's freelance and digital-services industry, but its significance goes beyond commercial work it became a base from which Hisham launched a series of initiatives aimed at opening the same doors for others that he had walked through himself.
Through Infomist, he introduced Rozgar Pakistan, a platform designed to connect international employers with Pakistani freelancers and showcase the depth of the country's freelance talent pool. Recognizing the structural barriers Pakistani freelancers faced account bans on international platforms, the absence of PayPal, and limited access to services like Upwork he later launched WorkChest, a Pakistan-based freelancing marketplace built specifically to bridge global clients and local professionals and to give Pakistani freelancers a home platform of their own.
Today, Hisham serves as the CEO of Innovista, a growing network of co-working spaces and entrepreneurial hubs designed to empower young founders, freelancers, and small businesses across Pakistan. Under his leadership, Innovista has expanded into multiple regional chapters including its Lahore (Ravi) presence and the Innovista Khyber Chapter launched in Peshawar providing state-of-the-art workspaces, mentorship, and networking opportunities. Innovista represents the next evolution of Hisham's mission: moving from teaching individuals to freelance toward building the physical and community infrastructure that lets entrepreneurs and digital professionals collaborate, scale, and thrive.
Parallel to his companies, Hisham built BeingGuru, an internationally recognized blog and knowledge hub covering freelancing, entrepreneurship, motivation, and technology. BeingGuru became one of the most referenced Pakistani resources for practical, no-nonsense freelancing guidance, reflecting his belief that knowledge should be shared freely rather than gatekept.
His reach expanded dramatically through his YouTube channel, which grew past a million subscribers and became a go-to destination for aspiring freelancers seeking step-by-step guidance on platforms like Fiverr and Upwork. His Facebook community, "Learn Freelancing With Hisham Sarwar," created a supportive space where members share problems, solutions, and success stories many crediting him directly as the reason they began freelancing at all. His personal brand also earned him recognition as a leading LinkedIn voice, where he consistently ranks among the top Pakistani content creators.
Perhaps his most far-reaching contribution came when the Government of Pakistan enlisted him as a lead trainer and the public face of DigiSkills.pk, the flagship national initiative to train a million Pakistani freelancers through free online courses. Teaching within DigiSkills allowed Hisham to scale his mentorship to a national level, and it cemented his role as a bridge between grassroots freelancers and formal, state-backed skill development. In total, across his platforms, programs, courses, and university lectures, he is credited with training more than two million freelancers a figure that places him among the most impactful digital educators the country has produced.
He has extended that mission physically as well, traveling to universities across Rawalpindi, Islamabad, Peshawar, Gujranwala, and beyond to deliver free lectures on freelancing and entrepreneurship, often refusing payment for his time.
